Chase Tushaus has an unusual background. After graduating with two degrees from the University of San Diego, he was an engineer for two major aerospace firms, L-3 Harris and SpaceX, for the first five years of his career. “People always ask me about my time at SpaceX, and yes, Elon Musk was always there wandering around and popping into meetings. It was a fast-paced atmosphere with long work days,” Chase says.

“While it might seem odd to some people that I left engineering to become a financial advisor, I always knew this is what I wanted to do. But before I joined the industry, I needed to learn on my own,” he says. “I love meeting people, listening to them, developing customized financial plans and strategies to help them achieve their goals, and being there for them to help. And the good thing about working with my family is that, while we each have strong ideas, our different perspectives allow us come together as a stronger team on behalf of clients. We all truly care. And we have fun—having fun together is important, too.”

Originally from Scottsdale, Arizona where he grew up, Chase runs the San Diego office, and is licensed in California to sell insurance products and holds a Series 65 registration. “At TWM, we disclose and are transparent about all fees we charge, which dovetails perfectly with our approach of treating every client as a close family member and friend,” Chase says.

Although he serves as TWM’s chief compliance officer and helps all the firm’s clients with many financial and retirement planning services, Chase has a couple of areas of special interest to him. One of his areas of emphasis is helping parents and students plan for college expenses. “My wife, Julia, counsels and advises students on all the many things they need to do academically to get into the college of their choosing. At Tushaus Wealth Management, we help with the financial part,” he says.

TWM offers many different types of options for college saving, including 529 plans, UTMAs, UTGAs and more. The circumstances for each family are different which Tushaus Wealth Management takes into account in the education planning process. “Of course, parents want what’s best for their children, but it shouldn’t come as a detriment to their own financial success. We help them not sacrifice too much, but do what’s prudent for the student and the whole family as they also work to save for retirement.”

Another area of focus for Chase revolves around business planning, specifically helping uncover process efficiencies that can positively affect a company’s bottom line, especially in the manufacturing industry. “I understand their issues and pain points because I’ve been there.” Chase says.

TWM also helps companies with many other things, including cash management services, employer sponsored retirement plans and profit-sharing plans, locating business funding/lending sources, and consulting on mergers and acquisitions by partnering with CPAs, bankers, and other experts in order to help with company valuations for sales and/or succession plans.

Chase graduated from the University of San Diego with Bachelor of Arts and Science degrees in industrial and systems engineering. He is a member of the University’s Alumni Board and co-chair of its Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering and Computer Science Alumni Council. He and his wife, Julia, live in San Diego. They are parishioners at St. Charles Borromeo in Point Loma and are dedicated to spending time mentoring local youth.
